🍿 Pick Flick Watch Party — Browser Extension

Support & About

This extension is the companion to Pick Flick — it adds live chat and synced play/pause/seek to a household's watch party, right on top of whatever streaming service you're already watching. It only activates when Pick Flick hands it a join token, from the "Start Watch Party" button on a revealed pick.

Quick check — click the 🍿 icon in your toolbar any time. It tells you right away whether you're currently connected to a watch party and how many tabs are syncing.

Troubleshooting

The toolbar popup says "Not in a watch party yet"

That means the join message from Pick Flick never reached the extension. Two common causes:

1. You tapped "Watch This" and picked "View all options on JustWatch" instead of a direct streaming-service tile. The JustWatch link opens a page the extension isn't allowed to run on, so the sync connection never starts. Close that tab, go back to Pick Flick, and pick the direct service tile instead (e.g. the Disney+ or Netflix logo, not the JustWatch link).

2. The extension was just installed or updated and its background worker hasn't woken up yet — reopen the popup a second time.

I see the 🍿 button, but chat messages I send never show up

This usually means the tab that opened isn't the one the extension is actually tracking — most often because a fallback/search link opened a new tab rather than navigating the original one. Close every tab related to the watch party and click "Start Watch Party" again from Pick Flick, picking a direct provider tile this time.

Playback isn't staying in sync between tabs

Give it a few seconds — sync corrects drift roughly every 4 seconds rather than instantly, so small gaps self-correct shortly. If it's consistently off, confirm every participant's popup shows "Connected" first; a tab that never joined won't receive sync messages at all.

Does this extension work without Pick Flick?

No — it's a companion extension, not a standalone tool. It only activates when Pick Flick hands it a join token for an active watch party. Installing it alone does nothing until you start a watch party from the app.

What does it do with my data?

See the full Privacy Policy — in short: chat text and playback timing are relayed only to your own watch party's participants through Pick Flick's own server, never sold, never used for advertising.
